Ordinance No. 63/2022
of the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn of 7th October 2022
on the Rector’s Award for outstanding students who pursue their studies in a foreign language at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn

Acting pursuant to § 17 (4) of the Statute of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, passed in the resolution No. 494 of the Senate of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn of 21 May 2019 on the Statute of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (as amended), it is hereby ordered as follows:

§ 1

1. A student of a field of study conducted in a foreign language may apply for the Rector’s Award for  outstanding students who pursue their studies in a foreign language if:

1) he/she studies on a paid course, pursues a full study cycle and makes payments of the fees for the University’s educational services in a timely manner,

2) he/she has completed at least one year of study,

3) he/she has completed, in accordance with the study programme, the year of study which precedes filing an application for the Rector’s Award for outstanding students who pursue their studies in a foreign language,

4) he/she achieved outstanding learning accomplishments in the preceding year, understood as the arithmetic mean of the marks of at least 4.50, as calculated as per the rules laid down for scholarship granting purposes in the current Regulations concerning benefits for students of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn,

5) there is no investigation concerning him/her and he/she has not been subject to a disciplinary penalty.

2. Students who pursue studies in a foreign language under a partnership agreement with foreign institutions of higher education and do not pay for their studies under the inter-university agreement may not apply for the Award.

3. Applications shall be filed within the period and at the place set in the Rector’s Announcement.

4. An award shall be granted only upon a student’s request, filed within the period set in the Rector’s Announcement.

5. A student shall file an application at the dean’s office. Such an application shall contain the arithmetic mean of the marks achieved in the preceding year of study, i.e. in the two preceding semesters, calculated as per Section 1 (4), confirmed by the dean’s office. The application template is appended to this ordinance.

6. An application shall be considered only if filed at the time and place specified in the Rector’s Announcement.

7. The awards can be granted:

1) to not more than three outstanding students in each year of study if the number of students in a specific year is not lower than 24,

2) to not more than two outstanding students if the number of students in a year lies between 12 and 23,

3) to one outstanding student if the number of students in a year is lower than 12.

8. If the number of students who fulfil the requirements laid down in section 1, who have an identical arithmetic mean of marks, is higher than that specified in section 6, an additional criterion shall apply:

1) for students of the second year of study ­– the result of the admission qualification procedure for the study;

2) for students of the third to the sixth year of study – the mean mark from the previous year of study.

9. A decision to grant an award shall be made by the Rector after having obtained an opinion of the Dean/Vice-Dean and the student self-government at the faculty.

10. An award shall be granted once during an academic year for the previous year.

11. The award shall be financial, and it amounts to 40% of the summer semester fee in the academic year when it is granted.

12. The awards shall be financed from fees paid for the studies by students of the field of study where the applicant is studying.

 

§ 2

This Ordinance shall become effective as of the day of signing.
