Pediatric Division VI Rheumatology and Endocrinology

Rheumatological profile:

The department conducts diagnosis  and treatment of children from 2 to 18 years of age with rheumatic diseases, osteoporosis, and immunity disorders.

We are the only department in the region conducting diagnostics and treatment of rheumatic diseases in accordance with current recommendations of the Polish and European Rheumatological Society, including biological therapies.

Together with the team of nurses in the ward, children and their care givers are trained to deal with diagnosed chronic diseases. Patients during hospitalization are rehabilitated (kinesitherapy and physical therapy) and can continue studying  with teachers, pedagogues and psychologists.

Conditions of stay : We have 6 beds for patients, a treatment room, an examination room additionally equipped with diagnostic equipment, e.g. a capillaroscope for non-invasive examination of vessels, the latest generation ultrasound apparatus for examination of joints.

There is  a playroom / club room for children. Parents or care givers  (1 person) can stay with patients 24 hours a day. They are equipped with camp beds and a social room.

Rules for admitting patients to the ward:

1. Urgent admissions with or without a referral  or a fixed date, take place in the Emergency Department after the evaluation and decision of the doctor on duty.

2. Admission under the scheduled procedure with referral to the ward takes place after prior appointment of the hospitalization; the patient reports to the scheduled admission point on the set date.

Treated diseases:

The department diagnoses and treats children from 2 to 18 years old with the following diseases:

  • disorders of physical development (undernutrition, obesity, growth disorders, puberty disorders, menstrual disorders, hirsutism);
  • diabetes and pre-diabetes;
  • endocrine and metabolic diseases (thyroid and parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal, gonadal);
  •  growth hormone therapy for children with Somatotropic Pituitary Insufficiency  and IUGR / SGA (intrauterine growth retardation) as part of a drug program;
  • premature puberty treatment with Dipherelin as part of a drug program
  • treatment of children with acute and chronic infections;

The department conducts training for children and their care givers in diabetes mellitus and management of other chronic diseases.

Parents can stay with patients 24 hours a day. They are equipped with  camp beds and have access to a fridge.

The Department provides  "Phone to Mother", sponsored by the Orange Foundation. Patients can call their loved ones for free.

The ward also has a modern common room - Fairytale Corner by the Orange Foundation. The common room is equipped with the Educational Island, i.e. computer equipment with a touch screen. It has selected programs, educational games, audio-cartoons and multimedia materials that stimulate the comprehensive development of children. They allow you to train your memory, concentration, hand-eye coordination, logical thinking and stimulate the imagination.

There are also many books, toys and board games available for children.

Next to the nurses' station there is a rest corner for patients and their parents. There you can watch TV, educational films, use  internet, play and read.
