  Conferences co-organised by the Department of Clinical Paediatrics in 2022

1. Food allergy in children - latest guidelines in clinical practice - 30.06.-01.07.2022

The conference was organised by the Food Allergy Section of the Polish Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the Department of Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Collegium Medicum UWM in Olsztyn, the Provincial Specialist Children's Hospital in Olsztyn and the Paediatrics Clinic at the Medical University of Warsaw.

The conference discussed in detail, among other things, new guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of ABMK, eosinophilic oesophagitis, treatment of anaphylaxis, treatment of cow's milk protein allergy, elimination diets in the treatment of food intolerances and feeding difficulties in children.

The lectures were given by experts such as: Prof. Mieczysława Czerwionka-Szaflarska, MD, PhD, Piotr Dziechciarz, MD, Urszula Jedynak-Wąsowicz, MD, Agnieszka Krauze, MD, Andrea Horvath, MD, Prof. Hanna Szajewska, MD, Katarzyna Plata-Nazar, MD, PhD, Ewa Winnicka, MD, PhD, and Prof. Ewa Kossak, MD, PhD. Ewa Winnicka, MSc Psych. Katarzyna Bąbik, PhD, and Jarosław Kwiecień, PhD.

Other speakers included Anna Nowak-Węgrzyn, PhD, UWM professor, and Elżbieta Jarocka-Cyrta, PhD, UWM professor, co-organiser of the conference - Head of the Department of Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, UWM Collegium Medicum in Olsztyn.

2. Nutrition treatment in daily practice - indications, principles of use, monitoring - 16.09.2022

Speakers included specialists from the Children's Hospital in Olsztyn and the Medical University of Gdańsk. The conference was attended by more than 70. family doctors, paediatricians, neurologists, paediatric nurses and dieticians.

The conference dealt with the type of malnutrition that is not due to a lack of food, but to the inability to give the child food orally. A patient diagnosed with malnutrition should undergo nutritional treatment, which consists of supportive pharmacological and surgical treatment.

The speakers and conference participants were welcomed by Krystyna Piskorz-Ogórek, MD, PhD, Director of the Children's Hospital in Olsztyn.

Among the speakers was Agnieszka Szlagatys-Sidorkiewicz, MD, PhD, from the Medical University of Gdańsk, President of the Polish Society of Clinical Nutrition, who drew attention, among other things, to the impact of a child's illness on the onset of malnutrition.

Professor Elżbieta Jarocka-Cyrta, head of the Department of Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Children's Hospital in Olsztyn and head of the interdisciplinary nutrition team at the children's hospital, emphasised that in every speciality we encounter patients who, due to their underlying disease or its consequences, cannot be fed naturally.

The aim of the conference was to update knowledge on the causes of malnutrition in chronically ill children, the principles of diagnosing malnutrition, the risk of malnutrition and the recommended methods of nutritional treatment.

Maciej Milczarek, M.Sc., pharmacist from the Children's Hospital in Olsztyn and Provincial Consultant in Clinical Pharmacy, discussed parenteral nutrition preparations.

The conference was organised by: Department of Paediatrics, Gastroenterology and Child Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, Collegium Medicum UWM in Olsztyn and the Provincial Specialist Children's Hospital in Olsztyn.
