Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Esophagus
Squamous cell carcinoma is a cancerous growth of the squamous epithelium covering the esophagus. It most often occurs in the middle of the esophagus. Risk factors for this lesion include smoking, alcohol abuse, diet, especially certain hot liquids, Plummer-Vinson syndrome, achalasia, and diverticula.
