REGULATIONS
CLASSES REGULATIONS FOR
THE MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
for Students of the English Division of Medical Faculty of the Collegium Medicum, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn
1. General information
- Classes are conducted by the Department of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine.

- The place, time and topics of individual forms of classes and exams are specified in the following documents: class schedule, syllabus and timetable.
- Classes are held in the form of lectures (5 h) and laboratory classes (25 h) conducted in groups of 10 people.
2. Rules for Student participation in individual forms of classes
- Classes begin and end punctually at the times specified by the Dean's Office. Before entering the classroom, outerwear must be left in the cloakroom and a clean medical coat must be put on. Students should occupy permanent seats throughout the entire classes period.
3. Presence during the classes, justification of absence and making up for the absence
- Attendance at all forms of classes is mandatory.
- All absences must be justified.
- In special random cases, a single absence from classes is allowed.
- Justifications for absence from individual forms of classes (including tests and exams) are made in accordance with the procedure specifying the rules for justification of absence from classes, exams and credits at the Faculty of Medicine.
4. Methods of making up for absences from classes
- In case of absence during the classes, it is possible (if there is enough space in the classroom) to make up the absence with a different group after prior arrangement via an e-mail with the Teacher responsible for the group.
5. Procedure in case of unexcused absence
- Absence from a given classes is equivalent to failing it. Justified absence allows the Student to attempt to pass a short test at another date agreed with the Teacher.
6. Contents
- The scope of content required of the Student during individual classes will be indicated in the schedule of classes published on the website of the Department of Neurosurgery and presented by the Teacher during classes.
7. Form of passing the examination
- Theoretical preparation and knowledge of the material from the recommended books and from information presented during the classes is checked during current classes in the form of a short test (entrance test) and during the colloquium for a given part of the classes.
8. Grading rules
- Che condition for passing the classes and being allowed to take the final exam is to pass the laboratory classes and get at least 14 points out of 20 of all short tests.
Grades scale: 14-15 pt. = 3; 16-17 pt. = 3,5; 18 pt. = 3; 19 pt. = 4,5; 20 pkt. = bdb. Short tests are in the form of closed-ended test questions. - The final colloquium is in the form of a test consisting of 30 closed questions (1 correct answer = 1 point). The condition for passing the course is to obtain at least 20 points out of all possible points on the final test.
Grading scale: 20-22 pt = 3; 23-24 pt = 3,5; 25-26 pt = 4; 27-28 pt = 4,5; 29-30 = 5. - The Student has the right to attempt the final colloquium three times. Failure to report for the final exam on the set date is equivalent to losing the date. In unforeseen circumstances, the Student may apply for a new date.
9. Lectures
- Attendance at lectures is obligatory.
- The material covered during lectures is included in the thematic scope of the subject exam and is verified during the written test.
- All absences must be justified.
- In special random cases, a single absence from classes is allowed.
10. Examination
- The condition for taking the exam is to obtain a positive grade from the classes.
- Exam questions cover topics present in lectures; both parts of exercises and recommended books. For each correct answer the Student receives 1 point. The condition for passing the exam is to obtain at least 70% of all possible points.
- Grades scale: 30-34 pt.=3,0; 34-37 pt.= 3,5; 38-43 pt.= 4,0; 44-46 pt.=4,5; 47-50 pt.= 5,0.
- Students are required to arrive at the exam on time. Latecomers cannot take the exam on that day (loss of the date of taking the exam and an unsatisfactory grade).
- In case of absence during the exam, it is possible to pass it at a later date agreed with the Coordinator. Only absences caused by illness certified by a medical certificate are permissible. Other unforeseen cases will be considered individually. In the event of unexcused absence from the exam, the Student will receive an insufficient grade.
- A Student has the right to take the exam three times. Failure to report on the scheduled exam date is equivalent to losing the date. In unforeseen circumstances, the Student may apply for a new exam date.

11. Rules for viewing individual forms of examination
- Short tests are available for viewing for 2 weeks from the date they were written, after which they will be destroyed.
- Colloquia are available for review within two weeks of being written, during Teacher consultation hours. In exceptional cases, at another time by prior arrangement.
- Exam tests are available for viewing within two weeks of writing them during the consultation hours of the Instructor. In exceptional cases, at another time by prior arrangement.
12. Academic legitimacy and honesty
- Recording lectures and presentations during classes and taking photographs of any materials provided during classes is not permitted /copyright infringement/.
- The use of mobile phones (and similar multimedia devices) is prohibited during written tests (short tests, colloquia, exams).
13. Any issues not regulated in the presented regulations of classes of the Molecular Biology remain at the discretion of the Coordinator.
14. The regulations of classes are consistent with the UWM Study Regulations and procedures in force at the Faculty of Medicine.
15. The Student is obliged to familiarize themselves with the health and safety regulations at the place where the classes are conducted and the EU GDPR directive.
16. Detailed description of the health and safety rules that apply at the place where all forms of classes are held: the class rooms must be kept clean and tidy, health and safety rules must be followed, and silence must be maintained. Eating is prohibited during classes.
