On November 30, 2007, the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery was established at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Warmia and Mazury.
in Olsztyn by the ordinance of the UWM Rector based on the UWM Senate Resolution No. 242 of 30/11/2007. The head of the Department was Wojciech Maksymowicz, MD, PhD, DSc.

 
On May 26, 2017, the Senate of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn issued opinion on Resolution No. 160 regarding the creation of Collegium Medicum as an organizational unit of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

 
Pursuant to Resolution No. 156 of the UWM Senate, two Faculties were established: Medical and Health Sciences. The Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery was assigned to the Medical Faculty of the Medical College of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

 
According to the Ordinance No. 16/2018 of the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury of 12 March 2018, at the request of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Chair of Neurology is created.

 
Ordinance No. 19/2018 of the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn of March 12, 2018, at the request of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, changes the name of the Department of Neurology of Neurosurgery to the Department of Neurosurgery.
