Nicolaus Copernicus
The most famous resident of Olsztyn was Nicolaus Copernicus. The memory of the great astronomer and physician is kept alive in the castle, where two grand halls bear his name and two statues of Copernicus were erected. As well as this, there is an astronomical observatory and a planetarium in the city, both named after Copernicus. Close to the castle, where Nicolaus Copernicus lived, is our School of Medicine. Copernicus, our patron, was not only a great astronomer but also a renowned physician and doctor.
