The Department of Rehabilitation and Orthopedics conducts international scientific cooperation. He maintains regular contacts with the Medical University of Kaunas (Lithuania), which resulted in signing an official agreement on scientific and research cooperation between the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the Medical University of Kaunas on March 29, 2010. As part of the cooperation, scientists from the Medical University of Kaunas participated in the 3rd International Scientific Conference Contemporary structural and managerial challenges in health care, May 24-26, 2010 in Ryn, which was also co-organized by the Department of Rehabilitation. Moreover, representatives of the rector and dean authorities of the Medical University of Kaunas participated in the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the Victoria of Grunwald on July 15, 2010. Among the Lithuanian delegation were Vice-Rector Prof. Renaldas Jurkevičius, Dean for Foreign Affairs Prof. Zilvinas Padaiga and the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Algimantas Tamelis. On January 25, 2013, the Department and Clinic of Rehabilitation hosted two professors from Kaunas and Palanga, Prof. Edgaras Stankevicius and Prof. Robertas Bunevicus to develop the Artterapy program within the Lithuania-Poland-Russia project.

On the recommendation of the Medical University of Kaunas, the Medical University of Vilnius invited Prof. Ireneusz Kowalski as a reviewer for the defence of Mr Zdzislavas Skvarciana's doctoral dissertation on The disability and health-related quality of life of working-age persons suffering from cancer tumours, which took place on June 20, 2012. Moreover, Prof. In 2014, Ireneusz Kowalski was a reviewer of the doctoral dissertation Būtėnaitė L.: Characteristics of the functional independence, body functions, activities and participation of patients after spinal cord injury and a united mathematical model for their assessment. Supervisor: Prof. Dr Alvydas Juocevičius. Vilnius University, Biomedical Science.

As a result of the extension of the cooperation agreement, Professor Edgaras Stankevicius is now a foreign scientist employed at our Collegium Medicum, an active lecturer - also at the International Scientific Conference in 2018 in Lidzbark Warmiński on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Department and Clinic of Rehabilitation.

Moreover, Prof. dr hab. n. med. Ireneusz M. Kowalski represented Europe and our Faculty of Medicine as an invited lecturer at the world scientific event Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) and Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) in Wiesbaden, Germany on 07- May 10, 2014.

International contacts of the employees of the Department of Rehabilitation are also visible in the scope of the training. In 2010, Dr Katarzyna Zaborowska-Sapeta, MD, PhD. Piotr Siwik, Halina Protasiewicz-Fałdowska, MD, PhD completed an internship at the Rehabilitation Center in Germany, led by Prof. H.R. Weiss, who specializes in the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis.

In 2011, prof. dr hab. med. Ireneusz M. Kowalski participated in a training internship at the Rehabilitation Center in Guadalajara and Cancun in Mexico, and in 2012 at the Medical University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. In 2014, Dr Katarzyna Zaborowska-Sapeta, MD, PhD participated in a training course in Maastricht and Milan.

      The team of the Department and Clinic participated in 2014 and 2015 in the Scientific Conference in Riga, Latvia. The head of the Department and Clinic was a participant in the project on Strengthening the teaching potential of UWM, organized in 2014 by the Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. Also, in 2015 he completed a research internship at the Journal Medicina Kaunas in Lithuania and participated in and co-organized the Pediatric Scientific Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

In 2019, the International Conference of Lithuanian and Polish Women in Europe was held, organized jointly by the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the Medical University of Kaunas, Lithuania.
