At seminars each student prepares 30-45 minute presentations about particular topic from the list below. During one semihnar four students present their topics. Please create the list of the students with assignated topics. Please be prepared for all the seminars and classes.

SEMINAR 1. CELLULAR ADAPTATIONS. HEMODYNAMIC DISORDERS. INFLAMMATION. INFECTIOUS DISEASES.

1. Amyloidosis - general characteristics, classification, examples

2. Shock - types, pathomechanisms, symptoms

3. Granulomatous inflammations - definition, pathomechanisms, examples

4. HIV infection and AIDS, COVID-19, influenza

 

SEMINAR 2. DISEASES OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.  ENVIRONMENTAL AND NUTRITIONAL DISEASES.

1. Hypersensitivity reactions - general characteristics, classification, examples

2. Primary and secondary immune deficiences - general characteristics, examples

3. Protein, energy and vitamin deficiencies.

4. Obesity as a disease of affluence.

 

SEMIAR 3. NEOPLASMS.  DISEASES OF LUNG AND PLEURA.

1. Avoidance of the immune system and role of inflammatory reactions in carcinogenesis. Basics of immunotherapy in cancer treatment- definition, examples.

2. Hallmarks of cancer.

3. Pleural and mediastinal neoplasms - mesothelioma, solitary fibrous tumor, adenomatoid tumor, neurofibroma.

4. Interstitial lung diseases - classification, clinical symptoms, morphological picture.

 

SEMINAR 4. PEDIATRIC DISEASES. DISEASES OF HEART AND VESSELS.

1. Monogenic disorders.

2. Genetic disorders dependent on chromosomal aberrations.

3. Inflammation of small vessels/cryoglobulinemia, Henoch-Schonlein purpura, Goodpasteur's syndrome (anti-GBM disease)/.

4. Superior vena cava syndrome, lymphedema and primary cardiac neoplasms (cardiac myxoma, papillary fibroelastoma, rhabdomyoma, angiosarcoma).

 

SEMINAR 5. PATHOLOGY OF SALIVARY GLANDS. PATHOLOGY OF THE GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT.

1. Malignant neoplasms of salivary glands of epithelial origin - classification, epidemiology, morphological picture.

2. Sialolithiasis, Sjogren's syndrome, acute and chronic sialadenitis - pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, morphological picture.

3. Celiac disease and intestinal lymphomas- pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, morphological picture.

4. Microscopic enteritis (collagen and lymphocytic enteritis), eosinophilic esophagitis, eosinophilic gastroenterocolitis - pathogenesis, clinical symptoms, morphological picture.
