ACTIVITY
Activities in the 2025/2026 Academic Year:
Since October 2025, we have been working on a scientific study entitled: “Subjective and objective assessment of voice quality in school-aged children, primary school teachers, and phoniatric outpatient clinic patients in correlation with the condition of the middle ear (Eustachian tube patency, otitis media with effusion) and coexisting medical conditions.”
The study was conducted across three primary schools:
- Szkoła Podstawowa im. Janusza Korczaka w Mystkowie
- Szkoła Podstawowa Nr 14 im. Marii Konopnickiej w Olsztynie
- Społeczna Szkoła Podstawowa 101 w Olsztynie
As part of our activities, on April 25, 2026, we participated in the spring edition of the "Health Under Control" campaign organized by the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) at Galeria Warmińska in Olsztyn. During the event, students—in cooperation with the company Audika—were responsible for the hearing screening station. We performed otoscopic examinations at the station, while pure-tone audiometry tests were conducted in the mobile "Audikabus" clinic.

From May 8–10, 2026, ten members of our science club participated in additional practical workshops on acoustic voice analysis in Wrocław. The sessions were conducted by the company DiagNova. The purpose of the trip was to learn how to operate specialized software and equipment for acoustic voice analysis, which the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Diseases will have at its disposal starting in May 2026.
The skills acquired during these practical classes are essential for conducting a key component of the scientific study: "Subjective and objective assessment of voice quality in school-age children, primary school teachers, and phoniatric clinic patients in correlation with the state of the middle ear (eustachian tube patency, otitis media with effusion) and coexisting morbidities," which we are carrying out as members of the Interdisciplinary SKN of Otolaryngology.
Funding Note: The trip was funded by the Minister of Science under the "Regional Initiative of Excellence" Program.

Activities in the 2024/2025 Academic Year:
The Interdisciplinary Student Science Club of Otorhinolaryngology was entered into the Register of Scientific Clubs on November 12, 2024.
Under the supervision of Dr. habil. Hanna Zajączkiewicz, Professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury, the Interdisciplinary Student Scientific Circle of Otorhinolaryngology focused during the 2024/2025 academic year on improving its practical skills and preparing to begin scientific research.
As part of the circle’s activities, its members participated in both the autumn and spring editions of the “Health Under Control” campaign organized by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). During the campaign, the students were responsible for the hearing-assessment station and the voice-disorder screening station.

The students also had the opportunity to take part in tympanometry training with the company Audika.

Additionally, the students collaborated with Dr. habil. Alina Minarowska, MD, collecting data for a nationwide research project entitled: “Respiratory system oscillometry – assessment of the respiratory system and development of norms for children and adolescents aged 3–18 years – a population study.” As part of the project, they conducted impedance oscillometry tests in kindergartens and schools in Olsztyn. In total, we examined over 150 children.
As part of the Regional Initiative of Excellence – Task No. 8: Funding for research conducted by student scientific circles in 2025, we received funding for the purchase of digital sound recorders, SD memory cards, and printing paper, which allowed us to obtain the equipment necessary to carry out our scientific study.
The Circle also submitted an application to the Bioethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Collegium Medicum, University of Warmia and Mazury for approval to conduct the study entitled: “Subjective and objective assessment of voice quality in school-aged children, primary school teachers, and phoniatric outpatient clinic patients in correlation with the condition of the middle ear (Eustachian tube patency, otitis media with effusion) and coexisting medical conditions.” The approval was granted in October 2025.
