Practical classes are preceded by a written test of knowledge of the topics discussed in a given day.

CARDIOLOGY

Before start of classes student should know the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system.

Class 1: Syncope

Definition, symptoms, diagnostic methods, differential diagnosis, treatment

Class 2: Chest pain, hypertension

Definition, symptoms, diagnostic methods, differential diagnosis, treatment

Class 3: Arrhythmias

Kinds of arrythmias. Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). Ventricular arrhythmias. Heart blocks. Definition, symptoms, diagnostic methods, differential diagnosis, treatment

GASTROENTEROLOGY

Before the classes student should know anatomy and physiology of gastrointestinal tract and liver, bilirubin metabolism, types of jaundices, the physiological jaundice, breastfeeding and breast milk jaundice.

Class 1: Liver disorders in children. Biliary tract disorders

Definition, types, diagnosis, treatment. Practical classes in the Gastroenterology Outpatient Clinic.

Class 2: Indications for endoscopy in children.  Diagnostic procedure of GI tract in children

Abdominal pain in children - acute pain, chronic pain, functional pain. Pathogenesis,diagnosis, treatment.

Practical classes:

Medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, making final diagnosis and treatment plan. Discussion of the case with an assistant. Participation in a medical round.

PULMONOLOGY

Before the classes student should know anatomy and physiology of respiratory tract

Class 1: Upper respiratory tract disorders

Congenital respiratory disorders. Physical examination of the upper respiratory tract. Otitis, sinusitis, epiglottitis, croup, pharyngitis – etiology, symptoms, differential diagnosis, treatment.

Practical classes: medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, making final diagnosis and treatment plan, discussion of the case with an assistant, participation in a medical round.

Class 2: Lower respiratory tract disorders

Physical examination of the lower respiratory tract. Spirometry, bronchodilator response.

Bronchitis, bronchiolitis. Pneumonia: types, symptoms, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, treatment, complications. Asthma. Cystic fibrosis. Primary ciliary dyskinesia.

Practical classes: medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, making final diagnosis and treatment plan, discussion of the case with an assistant, participation in a medical round.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Class 1: Bacterial diarrhea. Viral diarrhea

Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Clostridum. E.coli. Routes of transmission, symptoms, differential diagnosis, treatment.

Practical classes: medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, making final diagnosis and treatment plan, discussion of the case with an assistant, participation in a medical round.

Class 2: Exanthematous childhood disease. Parasitic infections

Adenovirus, herpesvirus, varicella zoster, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, coxackie, parvovirus B19, enterovirus, measles, mumps, rubella. The incubation period, clinical image, treatment, prevention.

Practical classes: medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, making final diagnosis and treatment plan, discussion of the case with an assistant, participation in a medical round.

Pinworm infection, Giardiasis, Toxocarosis, Taeniasis, Scabies, Ascariasis, Echinococcosis. Routes of transmission, symptoms, differential diagnosis, treatment.

Practical classes: medical history taking, physical examination, differential diagnosis, interpretation of the lab tests and diagnostic imaging, making final diagnosis and treatment plan, discussion of the case with an assistant, participation in a medical round.
