The sequence of topics may change during the semester according to the schedule for Pediatrics. Due to the wide range of material we recommend earlier preparation.

A test, which covers the subject from basic literature, seminars and  lectures, will be taken before every practical exercises.

Classes will take place in the Regional Children’s Specialized Hospital, Żonierksa 18a street Children’s Hospital on the Wards according to the class schedule.

Class 1: Psychomotor development up to third year of life

Definition of the development. Development overview. Neuromuscular maturity assessment of the newborns. Newborn reflexes. Muscle tone assessment in infants. Psychomotor development in particular months of the first year of life.

Mile stones in the first year of life. Development of the speech, social skills, gross and fine motor. Psychomotor development delay in the first year of life. Child development in the 1 – 3 years of age and preschool period. The Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST II).

 

Class 2: History taking in pediatrics. Patient report

General principles of history taking in pediatrics.

Case report. History taking scheme.

The most common problems in pediatric practise - the most important questions during history taking in pediatrics (abdominal pain, fever, cough, headaches, vomits, failure to thrive /weight loss). Initial assessment of the patient - "ABCDE",

GCS, AVPU. General rules of written patient history.

Participation in the ward rounds.

Physical examination of the children hospitalized in the ward.

 

Class 3: Underweight in children. Assessment of the child development – history taking, physical examination. Case report

Assessment methods of the physical development (table standards, percentile charts). Pediatric examination scheme – inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation, separateness  in physical examination of the younger child.

Detailed part: general principles of systemic physical examination in younger children, history taking and physical examination of the chosen patients.

Participation in the ward rounds.

Physical examination of the children hospitalized in the ward.

 

Class 4: Physical examination of the children: general appearance. Case report – disscusion

Pediatric examination scheme of the infants and young children – physical examination separateness of the infants and young children.

Participation in the ward rounds.

Physical examination of the children hospitalized in the ward.

 

Class 5: Examination of the head and neck, dysmorphs.

Pediatric examination scheme of the older child – physical examination separateness of the older child.

Participation in the ward rounds.

Physical examination of the children hospitalized in the ward.

 

Class 6: Common symptoms: abdominal pain, vomiting in children-functional disorder or disease.
