RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE SUBJECT OF
GYNECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS

for the students of 6th  year Medical Doctor Programm, CM, UWM in Olsztyn

 

  1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1     The Gynecology and Obstetrics subject is perforemd by Depeartment of Gynecology and Obstetrics CM UWM.

1.2     Academic staff  responsible for the subject:

1.3  Time, place and themes of the particular types of classes and credits are included in the documents: study programme, sylabus, schedule and themes of the classes. These documents are avaliable on the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics website  (http://wl.uwm.edu.pl/en/kgip) and on the School of Medicine website (https://wl.uwm.edu.pl/en/kgip/teaching/vi-year/medical-doctor/gynecology-and-obstetrics-xi-semester/winter-semester).

  1.  CLASSES ARE HELD IN THE FOLLOWING FORMS:

* Exercises (in the Clinic and in the Medical Simulation Centre)

Excercises are held according to the class schedule . The student is obliged to participate in the classes within the group of students, to which he is assigned.

2.1        EXCERCISES

      Exercises take place at the following departments:

 WSS Olsztyn, 18 Żołnierska Street:

- Gynecology and Obstetrics Department;

- Department of Oncological Gynecology;

 

          Clinical excercices are held in subgroups of 2-3 students . Excersises take place at the Clinic, where students have the opportunity  to participate in daily acticities of the Ward.

Moreover excersises take place in the Medical Simulation Centre (Warszawska 30 Street),
where students can  practice  their skills using medical phantoms. Excersises in the Simulation Centre enable students to acquire practical knowledge about physiological delivery.

3. THE RULES OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATION IN PARTICULAR FORMS OF CLASSES.

 

3.1. Applies to all classes : excercises, semnars and lectures.

Students are obliged to participate in all classes according to the actual study programme and class schedule.

Before entering classes outwear, bags and personal belongings must be left in the locker room. Mobile phones, notebooks and audio equipment can not be used during the classes. It is forbidden to smoke, drink and eat in the lecture halls and in the ward. Recording, taking photos and making videos during  the classes  is forbidden. Student may stay in class rooms only in the presence of the academic staff. Leaving class rooms without the permission  is forbidden. In buildings where classes are conducted, students must remember to keep silence and order.

3.2 Excercises

Class attire: protective clothing must be worn during the classes. The student is obliged to stay in the hospital in clean white, unbrushed apron and variable footwear (light sole). Outerwear, bags and personal belongings must be store in the locker room. During the classes jewellery is prohibited.

Note: the student is obliged to know the issues discussed in previous years (exercises, seminars, lectures).

4. CLASS ATTENDANCE, JUSTIFICATION AND MAKING UP FOR THE ABSENCE.

The presence on exercises is obligatory:

a) one justified excuse is allowed during the semester (for important random reasons).

b) in the event of a justified absence, the student is obliged to make up for an abandoned exercise with another group; for this purpose, the student should:

- provide an appropriate justification (eg. a medical certificate) at the Department office (7 days from the end of the dismissal period) and obtain a permit to make up the absence after prior arrangement with the person running the day with a designated exercise group.

- obtain written confirmation of doing the exercise and passing the binding material,

c) lack of unexcused presence on the exercise makes it impossible to obtain a semester.

5. CREDIT OF PARTICULAR FORMS OF CLASSES

In the Departemnt  following grading scale is held :

- Very good - (5.0)

- Good plus - (4.5)

- Good - (4.0)

- Satisfactory plus- (3.5)

- Satisfactory - (3.0)

- Insufficient (2.0) /fail

5.1 EXERCISES

The student under the semester takes classes according to the class schedule. The student is required to be prepared for each class according to the materials listed in program of the course. Academic staff have the right to verify the level of preparation of students, in written or oral form. After finding  a lack of student's preparation the teacher has the right to not to allow student to participate in classes and determine the form of making up for students absence.

The student must pass all practical skills required for the given semester. During the exercises, the student's individual work, ability to work in a group and correct case analysis will be assessed.

The final credit is made on the basis of the above criteria by the teacher responsible for teaching the subject.

5.2 THE ADMISSION TO PASS THE SEMESTER IS:

a) presence at all exercises

b) passing practical skills required in a given semester

5.3 EXAM

The Gynecology and Obstetrics course ends with an exam consisting of 2 parts:

-practical part: with the use of phantoms, covering the material from clinical practice (practical part will be held in Medical Simulation Centre)

-theoretical part (single-choice test): covering the material of lectures and seminars.

The test consists of 100 single-choice questions. 60% of correct answers allows student to pass the test.

While passing the exam using any kind of help as well as communicating with fellow participants is strictly forbidden. The fact of cheating will be noted and the student will be disqualified.

Student has the right to view the exam test and its results after obtaining permission from the Gynecology and Obstetrics Coordinator - Marek Gowkielewicz MD, PhD.

5.4 INDIVIDUAL ORGANIZATION OF STUDIES

Students with an individual organization of studies are required to contact the person conducting the subject , Coordinator of the subject and Departments office in order to determine the mode of implementation of the subject. Student is obliged to submit the consent of individual organization of studies given by an authorized representative of the Dean's authorities.

  1. Regulations for classes of subject Gynecology and Obstetrics are consistent with the UWM Study Regulations and the procedures in force at the Faculty of Medicine.
  2. Before starting clinical classes, students are required to read the principles of health and safety and GDPR as well as the principles of epidemiology and civil defense in force at the Hospital in which student takes the classes. The lecturers will familiarize students with the basics of the above principles, and students will sign an appropriate statement about familiarizing themselves with their content.

All issues not included in this regulations will be resolved by the Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

 

HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS

DEPARTMENT OF GYNECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS 

1.Before entrance the excercise room or hospital ward, outwear clothes, bags, rucksacks and personal belongings must be left in hospital locker-room.

2.The entrance to the lecture and excersice rooms is allowed only for students of University of Warmia and Mazuty in Olsztyn, according to the class schedule actual for Faculty of Medicine.Introducing outsiders to the lecture and excercise rooms is forbidden.

3.During the classes (held in hospital) students should wear white, clean aprons and change footwear.

4.In all classrooms, strict adherence to the principles of cleanliness and regulations of Health and
 Safety is obligatory.

5.It is forbidden to: eat ,drink  and smoking cigarettes inside the classrooms. Using mobile phones, recording lectures, taking photos and making videos during the classes is strictly prohibited.

6.A student whose condition indicates the consumption of intoxicants or alcohol may be removed from the course until verification.

7. Note: the area around the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the hospital buildings is non-smoking.

8. Before entering clinical classes, students are required to read the principles of health and safety and GDPR as well as the principles of epidemiology and civil defense in force at the Hospital in which
student takes the classes.
