From 01/01/2021 the Department of Internal Medicine headed by Professor Tomasz Stompór PhD.

The Department consists of two clinics:

Clinic of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Internal Medicine

Clinic  of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Internal Medicine Faculty  was established on the ward  of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Provincial Hospital in Olsztyn. Head of Clinic is Professor Elżbieta Bandurska-Stankiewicz  PhD. Clinic provides diagnosis and treatment of diabetic patients with diseases of the endocrine organs  and other metabolic disorders population of Warmia and Mazury.

Clinic of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Internal Medicine continues  teaching in the field of postgraduate training of doctors and nurses and now among students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Directions of ongoing and planned research:

  • Diabetes research
  • Thyroid diseases
  • Studies on the nutritional status of the population province Warmia and Mazury.

 

Clinic of Nephrology, Hypertension and Internal Medicine

Clinic of Nephrology, Hypertension and Internal Medicine  was established on the branch of Nephrology, Hypertension and Internal Medicine  Provincial Specialist Hospital in Olsztyn by a decision of the Senate UWM Assembly of Warmia and Mazury and Social Council of the Provincial Hospital in Olsztyn.

Head of Clinic is Tomasz Stompór  PhD Associate Professor. Branch was the first in the whole region, he began to perform dialysis in 1978. The 30 years studied, many physicians and nephrologists from around the region. Now many of them are experienced and eminent specialists in the field of nephrology, hematology, nuclear medicine and endocrinology.

Clinic of Nephrology, Hypertension and Internal Medicine, working Regional Specialist Hospital deals with the diagnosis and treatment of renal diseases (diseases including glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, extending systemic disease with involvement of the kidneys, chronic renal failure, acute renal failure, et al.). The unit also deals with diagnosis and treatment of hypertension. The specific activity of the Clinic is  treatment technique MARS (Molecular Adsorbents Recirculation System), commonly called albumin dialysis or liver. This technique allows the treatment of patients with acute liver failure in the course of acute poisoning (eg, fungi, drugs), and patients with end-stage liver disease (eg cirrhosis course) waiting for transplantation of the organ. Camera MARS is the only such device in the Warmia and Mazury.

In terms of renal replacement therapy (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis) Clinic  Nephrology, Hypertension and Internal Medicine works with non-public dialysis station "Diaverum"  the Provincial Hospital. This station provides dialysis for more than 100 residents of the city and the region. Clinic in cooperation with dialysis station  also preparing patients to report on the waiting list for kidney transplantation  and pancreas.
