Collegium Medicum - Inauguration of the Academic Year 2019/2020

On October 2, 2019, the Solemn Inauguration of the Academic Year 2019/20120 took place at the Collegium Medicum of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.

The ceremony began traditionally with the procession marching to the courtyard of the Castle, where first-year students made their oath. The current structure of Collegium Medicum consists of: School of Medicine – Polish Division and English Division and Faculty of Health Sciences.

The main part of the ceremony took place at the Conference Center of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The ceremony was attended by: parliamentarians, university authorities, professors, representatives of city and province authorities, representatives of uniformed services, representatives of medical services, guests, university employees and first-year students from both faculties of Collegium Medicum. The ceremony was graced by the performances of the Academic Choir directed by prof. Catherine Bojaruniec.

The ceremony was opened by Professor Sergiusz Nawrocki, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum UWM in Olsztyn, who gave an occasional speech and then asked Dean Ewa Dzika, MD, PhD and Dean Leszek Gromadziński, MD, PhD for the nomination of first year mentors:

- Medicine (Polish Division) - Jacek Kieżun, PhD

- Medicine (English Division) - Bartłomiej Kraziński, PhD

- Nursing - Katarzyna Młynarska, MSc

- Obstetrics - Małgorzata Drężek-Skrzeszewska, MSc

- Emergency Medical Services - Karol Przegaliński, MSc

- Dietetics - Joanna Korycińska, MD, PhD

- full-time nursing, 2nd cycle - Lucyna Kiełbasa, MSc

The oath was conducted by the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education Professor Agnieszka Skowrońska, MD, PhD and in English for the English Division Vice-Dean for English Division Students and Development Rakesh Jalali, MD, PhD. Then the students received congratulatory letters. English-speaking medical students include representatives of Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Egypt, the Philippines, Spain, India, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Germany, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Sweden, Uzbekistan and Great Britain.

Professor Sergiusz Nawrocki, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum thanked the departing authorities: Professor Andrzej Rynkiewicz MD, PhD, Professor Tomasz Stompór, MD, PhD and Professor Elżbieta Jarocka-Cyrta, MD, PhD , then Dean Leszek Gromadziński, MD, PhD, handed the Dean's Lily of the Valley.

Occasional speeches were given by: His Magnificence Rector Professor Ryszard Górecki, Voivode Artur Chojecki, Deputy Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship Marcin Kuchciński, Vice President of the City of Olsztyn Ewa Kaliszuk and representatives of the Student Government - Jakub Wrocławski, Jakub Stefaniak, Laura Eliszewska and Sreedurga Harikumar.


At the end of the ceremony, the inaugural lecture entitled "Health and weather" was delivered by. Jerzy Romaszko, MD PhD.
